Prešeren is one of the most successful Slovenian poets in history. Some people choose to celebrate the holiday on the poet’s birth date, December 3, but the December date is not a noted national holiday. The original sentiment of the holiday was for people to enhance their education by attending cultural events, and many people continue to use the national holiday to focus on cultural education. Prešeren Day is one of 16 annual work free public holidays in Slovenia.
